About the Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) Team:
The Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) Team is responsible for monitoring, screening, and implementing controls to mitigate risks related to money laundering, sanctions, and illicit financial activities. This team plays a critical role in developing and optimizing technology-driven compliance programs that safeguard the firm’s operations.
The team oversees AML transaction monitoring, sanctions evasion controls, negative news & PEP screening, enterprise-wide customer risk assessment models, and regulatory reporting frameworks.
The Role:
The firm is seeking an experienced Sanctions Controls professional to lead and enhance its global economic sanctions controls, with a specific focus on geo-location monitoring and sanctioned securities. This role will drive the development of non-screening sanctions evasion controls, working closely with compliance, technology, and business teams to strengthen the firm’s ability to detect and mitigate sanctions evasion risks in trading activity and client login locations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and overseeing automation frameworks, managing risk assessments, and ensuring alignment with global sanctions programs (OFAC, EU, UK, UN, etc.). They will also play a key role in regulatory reporting, governance, and continuous process improvement within the sanctions compliance function.
This role is onsite in New York, NY.

Key Responsibilities:
Sanctions Risk Oversight & Compliance Controls
- Establish and oversee the firm’s sanctioned securities control framework to ensure compliance with global sanctions regulations (OFAC, EU, UK, UN).
- Develop geo-location monitoring and IP-based access controls to detect potential sanctions evasion attempts.
- Implement automated processes for position exposure monitoring, blocked property management, and regulatory reporting (e.g., OFAC ORI reporting).
- Support the ongoing enhancement of sanctions evasion controls, integrating process improvements and regulatory-driven upgrades.
- Oversee governance forums, working groups, and steering committees, ensuring key decision-making processes are data-driven and strategically aligned.
- Respond to regulatory exams, internal audits, and inquiries, ensuring compliance with global sanctions frameworks.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs related to sanctions risk management.
- Act as a liaison between compliance, risk, operations, and technology teams to align business needs with sanctions risk controls.
- Lead strategic projects to enhance the firm’s ability to detect and prevent sanctions violations.
- Provide real-time advisory support to business units, first-line risk, and sanctions compliance officers regarding control effectiveness.
- Develop and oversee key performance and key risk indicators (KPIs/KRIs) to measure the effectiveness of sanctions controls.
- Partner with technology teams to leverage AI, automation, and advanced analytics to enhance sanctions evasion detection.
- Identify opportunities to streamline existing controls, reduce false positives, and optimize operational efficiency.
Who You Are:
- Sanctions Compliance Expert: 8+ years of experience in sanctions risk management, financial crime controls, trading operations, or compliance.
- Deep Knowledge of Financial Markets & Trading Operations: Understanding of middle-office trade processing functions and their intersection with sanctions compliance.
- Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of global sanctions programs (OFAC, OFSI, UNSC) and the relevant control environments to mitigate risk.
- Technologically Proficient: Familiar with sanctions screening technologies, risk analytics tools, and automation frameworks. Experience with JIRA, Tableau, or Agile methodologies is a plus.
- Strategic & Analytical Thinker: Ability to analyze complex data sets, detect risk patterns, and drive data-informed decision-making.
- Strong Communicator & Stakeholder Manager: Experience engaging senior stakeholders across compliance, risk, technology, and business units.
- Process Optimization & Innovation Mindset: Proven ability to enhance and optimize sanctions control frameworks through strategic process improvements and technology integration.
